Because of the high altitude of 3,600 meters (12,000 feet), it feels warmer than this and the days are comfortable and even warm. However, the rainy season starts in the middle of June, and it rains 14 days of the month, usually at night, for a total of 71 mm of rain. So overall, this is good touring weather because most people will be inside in hotels when it rains at night, and they can enjoy 8 hours of sunshine a day.
June is a good month to go to the high mountains around Lhasa before the heavy rainfall in the rest of the summer and early fall. Check the Lhasa weather conditions and forecast>>
Clothing: Dress for the night temperature drop. Have a jacket, rain gear, water resistant shoes, trousers and T-shirts. It is a good idea to cover up if you have sensitive skin because the ultaviolet radiation is extremely intense. A sun hat and sunglasses help. Obviously, you'll need a coat and winter gear if you go up to higher elevations.
Altitude Sickness: The oxygen content of the air in Lhasa is only 2/3 of that at sea level, so a health check before you go is advisable. People who have blood pressure, asthma, or heart disease should take precaution. Most visitors get altitude sickness. Exertion is difficult.
Things to Do in Lhasa in June
Visit the Potala Palace
The gigantic ancient Potala Palace is a world famous Lhasa landmark and is quite beautiful. It was the palace of the Dalai Lama and has a very long history. The earliest parts date from the year 641 when a royal residence was constructed there. Now there are 1,000 rooms, and it is 13 stories. It is recommended by UNESCO and has appeared in popular movies.
The beautiful red and white fortress sits on a hill in the city. In the changing seasons, the various sides of it present beautiful views. There is a large pool on one side and grassy park on another. Many tourists find the walk up the stairs difficult unless they acclimate for two or three days.
Enjoy Namtso Lake

Shop on Barkhor Street
Barkhor Street: While seeing the scenic beauty and ancient architecture around Lhasa, you might want to shop for souvenirs and have meals. The best place to go for tourists is Lhasa's main shopping street. Unlike any other city in China, you'll see people bowing and stretching on the ground to make their way along it. They are traditional Buddhists worshipping or making a pilgrimage. Their focus is Jokhang Temple on the street. You'll see people worshipping and bowing around it.
Tourists can get souvenirs such as handicrafts and artwork. You can buy Tibetan rugs, clothes, and gold and silver jewelry. In June, there are not as many tourists on the street as in May and July.
