How do I get the Tibet Permit?

If you are flying from China to Tibet

Original permit will be posted to the hotel which you will stay in before taking the flight to Lhasa, you can get the permit from the hotel bell counter when check in. You will need to show the original permit for the flight boarding. If you are taking train from China to Tibet you will not need the original permit, what you need is only a permit copy.

If you are coming from Nepal to Tibet (by flight or overland)

You do not need to care about the Tibet permit, because the permit copy has been sent to our Nepal office for Group Visa application, you only need the Group Visa for entering to Tibet.

How much the Tibet Permit cost?

According to the local government’s regulation, travel agent is only allowed to apply the Tibet permit when visitors actually have booked a tour with the travel agent; the permit could not be purchased by independent travelers who do not book any tour with a local agent.

Further more, the traveler’s sightseeing in Tibet needs to be accompanied by the tour guide and driver. Travel agents should be responsible for their client’s travel behavior in Tibet, if any visitor did anything against the government, the travel agent will also be punished seriously.
